The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. This year’s theme is ‘Housing for all, a better urban future’. This year’s theme is Promoting the Contribution of Innovative Technologies to Achieve Sustainable Development Goal 16. The event focused on the status of human settlements and people’s right to adequate shelter. It also aims to remind people that they are responsible for housing for generations to come.
History and importance-
World Habitat Day was first celebrated in 1986 with the theme ‘Shelter is my right’. Nairobi was the host city of the event that year. The global overview of World Habitat Day 2021 will be organized by the Government of Indonesia.
What is ’17 Sustainable Goals’?
The United Nations Assembly targeted 17 goals in each county to provide an infrastructure including health, roads, education and development.
